Rent golf clubs on the Monterey Peninsula

Pebble Beach, Spyglass and Spanish Bay are a few minutes apart. Pick up a set from a local golfer and skip the baggage carousel.

A big trip that doesn't need a big bag

A round at Pebble Beach is one of the more expensive tee times in golf, and most visitors pair it with a road trip down the coast or a few days in Carmel. Hauling a travel case through all of that is a lot of effort for two or three rounds.

Sets on Tools of Golf are owned by local golfers. You see the exact clubs on the listing, book the dates you need, and collect from the owner at the pickup area shown.

What to look for in a rental set

The coast is cooler and damper than people expect from California. Marine air takes distance off the ball, greens are small, and wind off the ocean is a factor on the exposed holes — a set you hit solidly matters more than one you hit far.

Match shaft flex and length to your own clubs, check that the wedges and putter suit you, and see what else is in the bag. Morning fog is common, so a set that comes with a towel and a rain hood is a small bonus.

Getting there and getting a game

Monterey has a small regional airport; most visitors fly into San Jose, about ninety minutes north, or San Francisco. Resort tee times are booked through the resort and usually well in advance. Pacific Grove, Del Monte, Poppy Hills and Bayonet & Black Horse are easier to get on and far cheaper.

Choose a pickup near where you're staying, or on the drive down if you're coming from the Bay Area, and book for the full stay. Owners block out dates they need their clubs.

Where you'll play

Where to play around Monterey Bay

All of these take public tee times. Everything but Pasatiempo is within twenty minutes of Carmel.

  1. Pebble Beach Golf Links

    Pebble Beach

Nine holes along the cliffs of Stillwater Cove and Carmel Bay. The most famous public course in America.

  2. Spyglass Hill Golf Course

    Pebble Beach

Five opening holes in the dunes, then thirteen through the pines. Many locals rate it the tougher test.

  3. The Links at Spanish Bay

    Pebble Beach

A links-style course along the shore, with a bagpiper closing the day at sunset.

  4. Poppy Hills Golf Course

    Pebble Beach

A forest course inside the Del Monte Forest, firm and fast since its renovation.

  5. Pacific Grove Golf Links

    Pacific Grove

A municipal course whose back nine plays through dunes beside the lighthouse. The best value on the peninsula.

  6. Del Monte Golf Course

    Monterey

One of the oldest courses in the West: short, tree-lined and relaxed.

  7. Bayonet & Black Horse

    Seaside

Two demanding courses on the former Fort Ord, with views over Monterey Bay.

  8. Pasatiempo Golf Club

    Santa Cruz

An Alister MacKenzie design across the bay, and worth the detour if you're driving from San Jose.

Pricing

What a rental costs

Owners set their own prices, so there's no single rate card. Every listing uses one of two models, and the price you see is the price you pay.

Day rate

One price per day

The simplest model: a flat daily price multiplied by the number of days you book.

Price bands

Cheaper the longer you keep them

Owners can set bands by length — for example one price for a weekend and a lower daily rate for a week. Each listing shows its own bands.

No extras

Nothing added at checkout

Pickup is local, so there's no shipping, and no booking fee on top of the listed price. A deposit, if the owner asks for one, is a hold on your card rather than a charge.

Rental protection

How renters and owners are covered

The same four rules apply to every rental on Tools of Golf.

You pay through the site

Rentals are paid by card at booking, through Stripe. The price on the listing is the price you pay, and you never need to hand cash to an owner.

A deposit is a hold, not a charge

If an owner asks for a deposit, the amount is shown on the listing and held on your card. It is released when the owner confirms the clubs are back.

Damage is capped at the deposit

If clubs come back damaged, the owner can claim the deposit — never more than the amount shown on the listing. Both sides should photograph the set at pickup and at return.

We review disputes

If the set is not as described, the handover does not happen, or you think a deposit was wrongly kept, open a dispute from your dashboard and our team will review it.

Questions about renting clubs

How does golf club rental on the Monterey Peninsula work on Tools of Golf?
Every set is listed by a local golfer. Open a listing, choose your start and end dates, and check out — payment is taken upfront. You collect the set from the pickup location on the listing and return it there at the end of the rental. There's no shipping or delivery.
How much does it cost to rent golf clubs on the Monterey Peninsula?
Owners set their own prices, either a single day rate or banded pricing that gets cheaper the longer you keep the set. The price on the listing is what you pay — there's no booking fee added at checkout. Some owners also place a refundable deposit hold on your card, which is shown on the listing.
Where do I pick the clubs up?
Pickup is always local and arranged with the owner — typically a golf course, driving range or a public spot near their home. The general pickup area is shown on the listing and on the map above; exact instructions are shared once you've booked.
What if my plans change?
Cancellation terms are set by the owner, so check the listing before you book and message the owner as early as you can if your dates move.
