Rent golf clubs in Melbourne
Hire a complete set from a golfer who lives here. Pick it up on the way to the Sandbelt, play your rounds, hand it back.
Fly in with a carry-on, play the Sandbelt anyway
Melbourne is a long way from almost everywhere, and a travel bag full of clubs makes it longer: oversize baggage fees in both directions, a rental car big enough to hold it, and the standing risk that your set spends the week in a different city than you do.
Hiring locally fixes that. Sets on Tools of Golf belong to Melbourne golfers, not a rental fleet, so you see the exact clubs — make, model, shafts, condition — on the listing before you book. You choose the dates, meet the owner at the pickup spot shown, and return the set the same way.
What to look for in a hire set
The Sandbelt sits on a seam of sandy loam south-east of the city, and it plays the way that sounds: tight couch fairways, greens that release, and bunkers cut hard against the putting surfaces. The ball runs, so control matters more than raw distance.
Look for a set that matches what you play at home in shaft flex and length, with wedges you're comfortable using off firm turf and out of deep sand. Check the listing for what's in the bag — some sets include a putter and bag, some don't — and message the owner if you need to confirm specs.
Getting a game
Most of the famous Sandbelt clubs are private. Many set aside limited tee times for interstate and overseas visitors, usually booked directly with the club and often requiring a handicap and a home-club membership — check each club's visitor policy well before you travel. Greater Melbourne also has plenty of public-access golf if you'd rather just turn up and play.
Sort the tee times first, then book clubs for the same dates. Owners block out the days their set isn't available, so the calendar on each listing is the real availability.
Where you'll play
Sandbelt courses within reach
The core of the Sandbelt fits inside a twenty-minute drive, so one pickup covers a week of golf.
Royal Melbourne Golf Club
Black Rock
West and East courses. The West, laid out to Alister MacKenzie's plan, is the benchmark for the whole region.
Kingston Heath Golf Club
Heatherton
Dan Soutar's routing with MacKenzie's bunkering, on a remarkably compact site. The uphill par-3 15th is the one everyone remembers.
Victoria Golf Club
Cheltenham
Across the road from Royal Melbourne and the home club of Peter Thomson. Short par 4s that reward position over power.
The Metropolitan Golf Club
Oakleigh South
Known for immaculate conditioning and bunkers shaved right up to the edge of the greens.
Commonwealth Golf Club
Oakleigh South
Angled greens that make the right side of the fairway matter on almost every hole.
Yarra Yarra Golf Club
Bentleigh East
An Alex Russell design with one of the best sets of par 3s in the city.
Huntingdale Golf Club
Oakleigh South
Long-time home of the Australian Masters, and a sterner, tighter test than its neighbours.
Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club
Frankston
Two courses, North and South, at the southern end of the Sandbelt on the way to the Mornington Peninsula.

Pricing
What a hire costs
Owners set their own prices, so there's no single rate card. Every listing uses one of two models, and the price you see is the price you pay.
Day rate
One price per day
The simplest model: a flat daily price multiplied by the number of days you book.
Price bands
Cheaper the longer you keep them
Owners can set bands by length — for example one price for a weekend and a lower daily rate for a week. Each listing shows its own bands.
No extras
Nothing added at checkout
Pickup is local, so there's no shipping, and no booking fee on top of the listed price. A deposit, if the owner asks for one, is a hold on your card rather than a charge.
Rental protection
How renters and owners are covered
The same four rules apply to every rental on Tools of Golf.
You pay through the site
Rentals are paid by card at booking, through Stripe. The price on the listing is the price you pay, and you never need to hand cash to an owner.
A deposit is a hold, not a charge
If an owner asks for a deposit, the amount is shown on the listing and held on your card. It is released when the owner confirms the clubs are back.
Damage is capped at the deposit
If clubs come back damaged, the owner can claim the deposit — never more than the amount shown on the listing. Both sides should photograph the set at pickup and at return.
We review disputes
If the set is not as described, the handover does not happen, or you think a deposit was wrongly kept, open a dispute from your dashboard and our team will review it.
